Difference Between Business Days and Calendar Days

Calendar days count every day of the calendar, including weekends and holidays, without interruption. Business days, on the other hand, traditionally exclude Saturdays, Sundays, and official holidays, focusing only on days of commercial or labor activity. This distinction is crucial for meeting deadlines in contracts, legal proceedings, and project planning.

Practical Example: Planning a Project

Imagine that a project needs to be delivered in 30 business days from November 1, 2024. Using the calculator, you define the start date, add the holidays in November (All Souls' Day, Proclamation of the Republic) and December (Christmas). The tool will project the exact end date, which will fall in mid-December, very different from simply adding 30 calendar days, which would lead to the beginning of December.

Cautions and Tips

  • Regional Holidays: Always check municipal and state holidays, as they significantly impact local deadlines.
  • Bridge Days and Recesses: Add "bridge" days or year-end recesses as holidays for a more accurate calculation.
  • Union Agreements: Some sectors consider Saturday as a business day. Check the collective agreement and adjust the calculator as needed.
