What are elapsed days?
Elapsed days (or calendar days) are all the consecutive days between two dates, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Unlike business days, which exclude weekends and holidays, elapsed days represent the absolute linear time that passes on the calendar. The concept is used in contracts, legal deadlines, vacation calculations, leaves, and contractual penalties.
Inclusive vs. exclusive counting
The difference between inclusive and exclusive counting directly impacts the result and is crucial for the correct interpretation of contracts and legal deadlines.
Contagem Inclusiva
Includes both days (start and end) in the count. It is the most common method in commercial and civil contracts.
Contagem Exclusiva
Excludes the initial day, counting only full days between the dates. Software systems generally use this logic.
