Comparing gasoline and ethanol

Generally, ethanol needs to cost up to 70% of the gasoline price to be worthwhile. Calculate your vehicle's average with both fuels and compare with the "Alcohol vs Gasoline" tool to decide which offers the best value for money.

Efficiency checklist

  • Perform alignment and balancing every 10,000 miles.
  • Keep the air filter clean and change oil as recommended.
  • Avoid excess unnecessary weight in the trunk.
  • Use air conditioning moderately on steep climbs.

Frequently asked questions

Learn how to get the most out of your fuel consumption average.

How to correctly measure car consumption?+

Fill the tank until the automatic click and reset the trip odometer. Drive until the tank is near reserve. Refuel, note the gallons, and divide the distance traveled by the gallons filled.

Which fuel to use in the average?+

Take separate measurements for each fuel (gasoline, ethanol, diesel) or record the predominant type on the trip. Different fuels have different consumption and prices.

How to estimate monthly cost?+

Enter the number of similar trips made in a month or multiply the cost per mile by the average monthly mileage of the vehicle.

How to reduce fuel spending?+

Keep tires properly inflated and maintenance up to date. Avoid sudden accelerations and braking. Plan routes to avoid congestion.

Can I estimate CO₂ emissions?+

Yes. The calculator uses the average factor of 2.31 kg of CO₂ per liter of gasoline. Adjust the value if using diesel (2.68 kg/L) or ethanol (1.5 kg/L).
