Important Milestones by Trimester

1st Trimester (0 to 13 weeks)

The most critical phase, where the formation of all the baby's vital organs occurs, such as the heart and brain. Heartbeats can already be detected around the 6th week.

2nd Trimester (14 to 27 weeks)

Considered the most peaceful phase of pregnancy. The baby grows rapidly, and the mother begins to feel the first movements. The morphology ultrasound, performed during this period, assesses the anatomy of the fetus in detail.

3rd Trimester (28 weeks until delivery)

The final maturation period. The lungs prepare to breathe, the baby gains weight and usually positions itself head down (cephalic position), fitting into the mother's pelvis for delivery.

LMP vs. Date of Conception: Which to Use?

Use the Date of the Last Menstrual Period (LMP) when:

You have regular menstrual cycles and remember the first day of your last period. This is the standard method used by obstetricians worldwide because it is an easier milestone to identify.

Use the Date of Conception when:

You are sure of the date on which sexual intercourse resulted in pregnancy, common in fertilization treatments or for those who monitor ovulation closely. The calculator will convert this date to the standard gestational age.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clarify other doubts about your pregnancy.

How is gestational age calculated?+

Gestational age is counted from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). A full-term pregnancy lasts about 40 weeks (280 days). The calculator uses this reference to estimate the weeks, trimester, and estimated due date (EDD).

Can I calculate by the date of conception?+

Yes. If you know the exact date of conception, you can use the corresponding option. The calculator will adjust the calculation, considering that conception occurs, on average, two weeks after the LMP.

What does each trimester of pregnancy mean?+

Pregnancy is divided into three crucial phases: 1st Trimester (0-13 weeks): Organ formation. 2nd Trimester (14-27 weeks): Growth and movements. 3rd Trimester (28-40+ weeks): Maturation for birth.

Is the estimated due date (EDD) exact?+

No, the EDD is an estimate. Only about 5% of babies are born exactly on the expected date. A term birth can occur at any time between 37 and 42 weeks of gestation.
